Because of the time limitation and lack of experience, there are also some drawbacks within this proposal. For instance, the initial idea of this project comes from the lecture handout which talks about the development of new media. Then, I decided to produce a 3D online gallery. According to the research of other 3D website, I know the tools and languages. However, within this proposal, I haven’t talk too much about the tools and languages, and I haven’t used 3DSMAX and MySQL, which would affect the thoroughly understanding of these tools.
Besides, within the design part, I have produce one sample initial visual for the web page, the clients would need more than one in the real website development. And all the design comes from my own idea, which needs to consider more about the technology aspect.
If a developer uses this proposal to implement this website, the potential improvement of this proposal is that it needs more information about technology part, such as the languages. And more research can give more ideas. Moreover, the interface design can be more specific and professional.

This flow diagram includes all functions of this website, and defined the relationship between pages, contents and databases. Besides, this flow diagram describes how can pages link each other, and the features which can link to other pop-up windows. Oval represents pages, as well as Rectangular represents the content and databases which link to the features within the pages.
]]>Moreover, as “Art should do its best to recreate the full, multi-sensory engagement between the self and the world” which said by Richard Wagner who reinvented the opera house to transport the audiences into an illusionary world staged, the inspiration of this project comes from the similar idea. Network platform plays a more and more important role in the communication of people, which means it needs not only store and delivery information among people, but also display in an appropriate to make users feel convenient and interesting.
Furthermore, many online games use three-dimensional to be more attractive, besides, many personal websites are also built in 3D space. The common ground of them is that they all combine the 3D space and the communication of users very well. An innovative online gallery should not only share artworks, but also attracts people to join in and communicate with others.
This online gallery should like other online share platform, such as YouTube which is free to all the audiences to share their own work. And it also needs to have enough compatibility to store artwork and users information. Therefore, content management is very important.

1. Adobe Flash would be used to add animation and interactivity in to this website. And this software contains a scripting language which called ActionScript which is used to create buttons, text entry fields, drop down menus and so on within the website.
2. 3DSMAX is a software package which used to create modeling, animation and rendering. Because this is a 3D website, this tool would be used to create modeling and used with Flash together.
3. Adobe Dreamweaver is a web development tool. And this software supports CSS, JavaScript, HTML and some server-side scripting languages such as ASP. The advantage of this software is that it can be used by non-coders. Besides it allows designer preview the website in many browsers.
4. Adobe Fireworks is used to edit bitmap and vector graphic. Multi pages can be edited within a single fireworks png file, and the file can be exported as various formats, for instance JPEG, Animated GIF, gif, psd, swf and so on. This tool is useful to design the graphic used in website.
5. Adobe Photoshop can be used with Adobe Fireworks together in this project. It is a very useful image editing tool,
6. MySQL is used to build the databases. In this project, the databases are used to store users; information, artworks and vote result. Besides, the databases also used of information delivery, such as when the user search artworks within the website or buy artworks.
]]>This website is built in 3D space. And it integrates 3D and interaction together organically. Especially the 3D makes the scene very lively. Besides, it also focus on the information delivery, The designer of this website use flash to make all the necessary information enter into the whole scene, which makes audiences feel immersive.
Moreover, there are two small games within this website, which also expresses the good integration of 3D and interaction. And the animation doesn’t slow down the speed of the website.

This project is used to develop an innovative and experimental website to enhance the online participant of artwork and the communication between artists and other art enthusiasts. In order to be more attractive and visual, I want to build an online gallery within three-dimension space. This idea comes from Sutherland’s article “The Ultimate Display” in 1965. As the three-dimension space can mimic our real world, therefore, it is suitable to be used to expresses the visual object, for instance, the artwork.
Moreover, innovation is a very important objective of this project. Although there are many websites use 3D and flash, however, most of the online galleries are two-dimension. Therefore, this proposal is about a three-dimension gallery. Besides, there are many functions to stimulate the presence, exhibition and communication.

Here the mind map which based on the objectives of this project. There are 8 elements which related with the subject “Online Art Platform”, which are possible form, aim/use, language, tools, color, interface, data flow and produce time/budget. Besides, within the possible form, it lists three ideas: 3D Art gallery, multimedia website, and Art Bulletin Board System. Similarly, it also lists the possible tools, possible language and possible colors.
Moreover, the mind map can be divided into three part, and each part represents different steps of this project, besides, they need to be related each other in order to accomplish this project. The first one is theory part, which includes the aim/use and possible forms of this online art platform. According to this part, the final ideas can be determined. The second part is technology, which is consisted by possible language, possible tools, possible colors and the interface. And this part should be based on the first one. The task of this assignment is producing a proposal for innovative and experimental online platform or effective web tool to foster and stimulate the presence, exhibition, communication and management of art on the Internet. The proposal is to provide art galleries with web solutions responding to the concept of Web 2.0, and to provide opportunities to enhance their online presence and networking potential.
Elements requirement
